Different strength adrenaline injectors for different body weights

Adrenaline Injector 2

Most people know that adrenaline injectors come in different strengths or doses. It is important to discuss with your doctor the prescription of an adrenaline injector that is the appropriate dose for your or your child’s weight. You can read on the ASCIA website about the different adrenaline injectors that are now available in Australia and the weight ranges for which they are prescribed. Weight guidelines for adrenaline injectors can also be found on the bottom left-hand corner of ASCIA Action Plans. In summary, adrenaline injectors are prescribed as follows:

  • 150 mcg for children 7.5–20 kg
  • 300 mcg for children over 20 kg and adults
  • 300 mcg or 500 mcg for children and adults over 50 kg
