To make eating out with food allergy a little easier, Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia (A&AA) has developed a chef card.
When telling the wait staff or chef at a cafe or restaurant about your allergies, hand over your chef card and ask for it to come back with your specially prepared meal.
How to make a chef card:
- Download the chef card template.
- In the blue, editable section type in the allergens that you are allergic to.
- Print off the card.
- Cut the cards out.
- Fold the card in half and tape or glue it together and store in your wallet.
- You can even laminate it so that they last longer.
- Be sure to make several copies in case you forget to get it back from the restaurant.
REMEMBER: You cannot tell what ingredients foods contain by looking at them, smelling them or tasting them. When eating out, ALWAYS tell people preparing and serving food you have a food allergy. ASK about food content after you have told them about your food allergy.
