To help prepare children with food allergy for the transition from childcare to primary school, we have created an eBook. This ebook is designed to help you talk to your child about their food allergy and how they can take care of themselves in a new school.
This includes teaching them:
- To always wash their hands before and after eating
- To never accept food from other students
- The importance of telling a trusted adult if they are feeling unwell

When children are about to start primary school, it is important that they know about their allergy and how to avoid it age appropriately (without being alarmed) known as Food Allergy Literacy (FAL). The FAL resources in this page are based on a research program led by Dr. Prathyusha Sanagavarpu with funding from School of Education, Western Sydney. It is a collaboration between WSU, Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia, UTS and SPHERE Knowledge Translation Platform. Parents/ caregivers and educators can use these resources to talk to children (aged three and above) about their allergy and food allergy related safety.
