Food Allergy Week

Food Allergy Week was created by Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia to raise awareness of food allergy in Australia.

Australia has one of the highest rates of food allergies in the world, with more than 1.5 million Australians living with a food allergy. We also have one of the highest rates of hospital anaphylaxis admissions in the world. There has been a 51% increase in anaphylaxis presentations to emergency departments in a 5-year period, growing to more than 11,500 per year.

During Food Allergy Week 2025, Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia calls on all Australians to unite to help increase awareness and share information on what we can all do to improve safety for people who live with food allergies. Awareness and education help reduce the risk of allergic reactions, and effectively treat potentially life-threatening emergencies when they happen.

In 2025 the theme for Food Allergy Week is focused on travelling with food allergy – and our message is:

Plan well. Eat Smart. Travel Safe.

You can get involved and help raise awareness and impact for people with food allergy during Food Allergy Week:

Fundraising

By planning a fundraiser at your workplace, school or with family and friends, you can help people with allergic disease to live their best life.

  • $25 can enable reporting of an allergic reaction at a food service
  • $50 enables an Allergy Educator to provide one-on-one telephone support
  • $100 helps provide awareness in schools and childcare on managing anaphylaxis
  • $250 could provide an allergy education workshop in the community

Fundraising ideas:

  • Create an online fundraising page and ask your family, friends and workmates to sponsor your efforts
  • Host a Nail-Painting stand at school for a gold coin donation – and paint 1 in 10 fingernails a different colour, representing the 1 in 10 babies born with food allergy
  • Host a gathering and ask your mates to contribute a small amount
